When macro thinkers need to go micro

I am very much a macro thinker. I like to understand the big picture before I work out or proceed with the details.

It's how I motivate myself to work. Having a vision or a macro plan gives me the clarity and confidence I need, to both get started and keep going.

But my fellow macro thinkers and I can sometimes take this advance mapping a bit too far and get stuck in the planning phase.

In our attempt to ensure alignment and manage our risks upfront, we delay implementation. This also delays achievement of our desired outcome and learning whether our plan was any good.

These days, I am training myself to simplify and speed up planning or design, so that I can get to the ‘real stuff’.

This is the messy and difficult part where the magic happens, where you are actually delivering results and helping others, even though you are doing things imperfectly.

So, I encourage you to help yourself and others by working those plans.
